NYC Apartment Radiator Cover Transformation:

We recently completed a NYC apartment radiator cover transformation. It featuring our Shaker Model-A radiator covers with custom red oak bench tops. Amidst the apartment renovation, the cast iron radiators needed to be covers because they were unsightly old and large. Our client opted for the Shaker Model A design, seeking to imbue their child’s room with safety, uniqueness, and charm.

In response, we crafted a bespoke radiator cover for the child’s room and incorporated wall-to-wall solution. The wall to wall bench top is solid red oak boards. The bench top is 1.5 inches thick to emulate the look and feel of a genuine bench. To enhance safety, all corners rounded to 1/8th inch. The grill area featured 1/2-inch gaps between slots, while the bottom vent is 1-inch from the floor. Additionally, a custom-built shelf is integrated into the design. We make and finish all pieces in our shop and then bring everything and meticulously install on-site for a flush fit. To maximize space we built it with swinging doors on both side of the bench. Providing convenient storage access and radiator valve access.

The Finish:

For a pristine finish, we applied Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace Semi-Gloss to all covers and the shelf, ensuring a uniform appearance throughout the apartment. The oak bench top received special attention, treated with a clear sealant to accentuate the natural beauty of the red oak before applying a protective semi-gloss finish. Our full-service installation ensured each cover was precisely trimmed to fit flush against the wall, securely anchored to prevent tipping.

The Result:

The three radiator covers in this NYC apartment transformation fulfilled its functional purpose and also elevated the aesthetic. With their seamless, flush installation, they seamlessly integrated into the space, culminating in a remarkable transformation.
